Want to be in the know of what's happening at Esplanade?

Importing the transient nature of the performing arts to the exhibiting of visual arts, Esplanade's visual arts presentations generate a sense of dynamism through a constant change of exhibitions, located in the unusual spaces offered by Esplanade's unique architecture, and centered on four themes a year. Featuring international and regional artists, the presentations' focus on contemporary local and Asian artistic expressions gives a visual dimension to the centre's performing arts events and festivals.
THEME : Kaleidoscope
A kaleidoscope is a cylinder of mirrors that contains loose, coloured objects such as beads or pebbles and bits of glass. As the viewer looks into one end, light enters the other and creates colourful patterns off the reflections of the mirrors. Kaleidoscope is derived from ancient Greek, meaning "beautiful, beauty", "that which is seen: form, shape and "to look to, to examine", and hence "observer of beautiful forms."

There is more in art than “meets the eye”, and it requires dissecting, thinking, appreciating and sometimes philosophising in order to reach to the roots of the matter, or “higher grounds”. When one looks at life through another medium – the kaleidoscope in this instance – one may be able to find something quite unusual, that of beauty, convention etc. This quarter, we present a series of exhibitions to coincide with A Tapestry of Sacred Music, Flipside, Yfest, and Baybeats.
